When it comes to money, people get reckless. An adage that practically every phishing attempt is based on. A warning about fraudulent phone calls by criminals pretending to be PayPal employees was issued just yesterday.

Refund of the ÖGK?
The next warning today: Mails are currently doing the rounds that appear to be about a refund from the Austrian Health Insurance Fund ÖGK. You should click the link to receive a refund of just over 100 euros.

‘Caution! These messages are an attempt to defraud you. Do not open the link under any circumstances and do not disclose any personal data,’ writes the genuine ÖGK on its website.

Check the sender
Even if such fraudulent emails try to look deceptively genuine, you can usually recognise them quite easily. In this case, the layout looks incorrect and lacks effort.

A glance at the sender’s address should set alarm bells ringing. The current ÖGK phishing e-mail comes from no-replyogek@service.com.

Check proactively
If you are unsure about such emails, you should not click on any of the links. In the case of ÖGK, it would be advisable to visit the original website and log in there with your ID Austria.

If a payment is actually outstanding or something else is incorrect, you will receive the relevant information there. It may also help to contact the ÖGK telephone hotline, depending on the situation.
